Kannawidan Ylocos Festival
Ilocos Sur is a beautiful
province in the Philippines located in the Ilocos Region in Luzon. It is rich in
ancient Spanish and Filipino heritage culture. To proudly show and share their
treasures, Kannawidan Festival is being celebrated to highlight these cultural
traditions. It is being celebrated from last week of January to the first week
of February.
There is a mass held at St. Paul
Metropolitan Cathedral on the opening day, followed by a procession of the 40 Patron
Saints of every parish. It is the Ilokano’s way of giving thanks to the Almighty
Father for the blessings and for the rich heritage of the province. There are also
many other events that focuses to the ability and skills of the youth and the students
like for example, the Streetdancing Showdown showcasing their One Town One
Product, Cookfest, Folkdance, and Quiz Bee.
This festival is very important
for us to recognize and commemorate the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province.
We, Ilocanos shall continue to preserve the rich Iloco cultural, artistic,
historical and intellectual heritage. Let us work as one and be united, to love
our own culture and arts.
