Resiliency of Filipinos
Smiling. Laughing. Hoping. Accepting what is done and letting it
pass. Filipinos are really no stranger to natural
disasters. Filipinos are known for being resilient, all the time. We are
capable of recovering, even how strong that disaster is. We are excellent in
making things just the way they are. How can Filipinos do that? How brave are
they? Well, of course, maybe it runs in our blood.
Annually, there are so
many unexpected disasters in the whole world, but for the Pinoys, we are
already used to it. Instead of doing anything to lessen the effect of what the
disaster may bring, we are doing nothing except to accept and let it pass.
Strong typhoon which causes waist-deep floodwater, you can see people smiling,
laughing, and they’re not afraid what the typhoon may really bring. They let it
pass, wait for the lowering of waters, and try to rebuild again their homes.
They rebuild. They don’t wait for help because in the first place, they already
knew that nobody is going to help them and some will only extend their help
when they are already done rebuilding the damages. They help themselves.
Sometimes, being a happy and contented person makes me proud of myself. But, im
not happy that our country is immune to the worst of the worst conditions
brought by disasters. Do we really deserve those deadly disasters? Or are they
our karma? Well, maybe. The changes we want maybe is far from reality and
maybe, hard to implement. We are accepting the situations we’re facing just the
way they are. We cannot rely to someone, we rely on ourselves. Hoping that
someone in higher position could really see how are we surviving those kind of
disasters. Hoping that they could hear us. We really can’t do anything. We’ll
just wait and see. But let’s not forget to make sure that we’re safe,
in times of many disasters. That’s how we, Pinoys are called resilient.
Being self-reliant doesn’t mean that we don’t need help, when in
need, do not be afraid to ask for help. Just focus on the bright side of life.
Do your share and responsibility of being Filipino. Face the consequences and
move on. Buckle up and let’s get ready, ourselves has many more disasters to
face and smile. That’s really how things are. Smile, that’s all we have!
